Since its inception, the Children’s Christmas Fund has been a beacon of hope and generosity in the City of Cornwall. From humble beginnings in 1928, when the Kiwanis Club. first distributed food at Christmas, to the collaborative efforts seen today, the spirit of giving has flourished within our community.
The evolution of this initiative reflects a steadfast commitment to supporting the less fortunate. In 1935, the Christmas Relief Fund provided crucial financial support, enabling the distribution of over 125 food baskets. As the years passed, more service clubs joined the effort, culminating in the formation of the Cornwall Children’s Christmas Fund in 1948 by the Cornwall & District Service Club Council.
For six decades, this fund has been the sole common fundraising project of all clubs within the council, managed by a dedicated board of nine directors. Their regular meetings ensure meticulous planning for each Christmas, aiming to meet the growing needs of the community.
During the 1970s, the method of distribution transitioned from physical food baskets to food vouchers, streamlining the process and enhancing efficiency.
Since 1993, the Children’s Christmas Fund has expanded to include the distribution of toys, bringing joy to children alongside essential food provisions. Symbolizing the unity and dedication of our community.
The legacy of giving stretches over eighty years, highlighted 2004, where the fund provide comprehensive support. Through diligent fundraising, the Children’s Christmas Fund has raised over $800,000, aiding more than 24,000 families.
This year, the Children’s Christmas Fund is once again looking for Your financial assistance.
